Selain sebagai pusat informasi segala sesuatu tentang keseharian Anda, blog juga berfungsi sebagai image branding diri Anda sendiri. Pembaca blog sendiri yang akan memutuskan seperti apa sosok Anda ’sesungguhnya’ meski hanya dalam imajinasi masing-masing saja. Sifat, sikap, dan prilaku seseorang tercermin dari tulisannya baik gaya, tatanan bahasa, maupun cara penyampaian sesuatu kepublik. Harus diakui, terkadang sifat seseorang dibelakang sebuah blog belum tentu sama dengan sifat sesungguhnya di’alam nyata’. Saya tidak ingin membahas panjang lebar mengenai imej-imej-an atau narsis-narsis-an, tulisan ini untuk menginspirasi Anda, blogger sekalian, untuk lebih menghargai blog Anda sendiri karena itu adalah kekayaan intelektual yang tidak ternilai harganya.

Sebelum melakukan pembentukan image dimata masyarakat (publik internet), yakinkan bahwa search engine telah melakukan pengakuan atas diri sosok ’seorang Anda’ yang unik dan ‘penting’. Cara gampang untuk melihat apakah ’sosok Anda’ telah diakui sebagai sebuah branding yang penting dan ‘tahan banting’ adalah dilihat dari total indexed page yang terus menerus bertambah seiring terus meningkatnya jumlah tulisan. Jadi, bukan sebaliknya. Ada sebuah blog (mungkin milik Anda), yang meski setiap hari menerbitkan tulisan baru, namun jumlah indexed page semakin hari semakin berkurang, hingga pada suatu titik, dimana blog Anda benar-benar tidak dapat ditemui lagi setiap hasil pencarian. Faktor penyebabnya antara lain, kualitas tulisan yang tidak unik (copas atau ‘mesin sedot generator’), atau dinyatakan sebagai link scheme content (artikel paid review).

Goal pengakuan sebuah blog/brand dinyatakan ‘penting’ dapat dilihat pada hasil pencarian yang melisting isi blog secara prioritas. Perhatikan screenshot berikut :

Blog-blog tersebut telah mendapat pengakuan sebagai blog ‘penting’ dan unik (disamping struktur theme yang mendukung memungkinkannya SERP seperti gambar diatas). Untuk membentuk hal tersebut pada search engine dibutuhkan waktu yang panjang, ketekunan, dan konsistensi terhadap sosok seperti apakah ’seorang Anda’.

Nouveau Riche University is a vocational school specializing in real estate investing.
